Meet You in the Lobby
1–2 minutes

It’s 1992. You’re standing in the middle of K-Mart when you see the spinning blue lights. Mom makes a beeline for the latest special, but you’re too slow in your light-up L.A. Gears. All of a sudden you find yourself alone in the Martha Stewart Living section. You back into a shelf of salad spinners, knocking them over with a huge crash. Everyone is looking at you; someone points and laughs; you catch your mom hiding her face in embarrassment. Then the familiar crackle over the intercom: Clean-up on aisle 3.

If there was ever a genre of music to capture this memory, it’s this Spotify playlist of smooth jazz, funk, lounge, and vaporwave tunes to lull you into a state of perpetual nostalgia. Great background music for getting work done, chilling at home, or waiting for mom to finish her conversation with that neighbor she ran into at the store. It’s the sound of warped VHS tapes and dial-up modems, the jingle-jangle of Sonic’s rings and the hiss of fresh Crystal Pepsi. It’s lobby music, and you love to hear it.
